Description

This animation was produced for the Steelroots network brand on INSP. It was used to open up the time segment for Steelroots television. This particular project was a challenge at first, after researching ways to make a subtle secondary animation work, I came to no solutions. After a while of tinkering, 3DS Max had a nice physics system called reactor at the time, now it’s Mass FX.
At the time I wanted the ball to randomly get bounced around in the machine, so I could just focus on the main parts of the animation. Trying this by hand was a joke, so what I did was create shapes that looked like the internal parts of the machine, but kept them extremely simple. I then proceeded to place them in the correct spots, assigned a noise controller and made them invisible. With everything in place and all my objects set to collide, the ball flew through the machine with ease, getting knocked around just like a pinball machine would. This project was a joy to work on and at the time I used the old Brazil renderer to output the final look. This pinball animation was created in 3ds Max.
